What is oMoby?: oMoby is a shopping tool to help you find products and information by simply snapping a photo. Use the app to take a picture of any product you'd like to research or buy and we'll provide links to retailers offering product information, reviews, prices, and more. You can also email yourself your search results to view them from your web browser.
How does oMoby recognize objects?: oMoby uses computer vision, crowdsourcing and a little bit of magic to recognize images. When a search comes in, our innovative computer vision system can generally nail it in a few seconds; if that doesn't work, we turn to a network of humans to help us out. Either way, the system learns over time, so the computer vision gets smarter with each search. oMoby is powered by IQ Engines' image labeling engine. We're a young collaboration of scientists at UC Berkeley and UC Davis.
What types of products can oMoby find?: Right now, oMoby works best with books, CDs, DVDs, and video games, but we'll return a result for any product search. Try it on any product you'd like to know more about and we'll point you in the right direction.
Can I access my search history from the web?: Yes, just visit my.omoby.com and log in with your email address to access and share your entire search history.
How should I take the photo? How can I improve my results?: oMoby works best with a clear, up-close photo of a single product. For best results, try to fill your phone's screen with the product when taking your photo. For more tips, watch our YouTube instruction video.
Does oMoby read barcodes? Does oMoby require text to work?: No. Unlike a barcode search, oMoby searches the visual object itself. This means that you can search for any product in the world, whether or not it has a barcode or text on it.
Why didn't oMoby find what I was looking for?: Perhaps your photo was blurry, far away, or included multiple items; if so, try again and make sure you take a clear, close-up picture of a single product. If that doesn't work, contact us and we'll try to help. oMoby is getting better all the time -- if there's a particular type of product you'd like to be able to search for, please tell us!
